Program of Study - Social Work
Providence University College and Booth University College offer a program leading to a Bachelor of Social Work. Granted by Booth University College, this degree prepares students for a wide range of career possibilities in Christian, community and government agencies. This program of study combines theoretical foundations with experience through supervised practicum opportunities. Students spend as much as two years of the program at Providence University College, and the third and fourth years at Booth University College in Winnipeg. They also take one distance education course through Booth during the summer follow ing their first year of study at Providence (SWK 110 Introduction to Social Work).
In addition to meeting the broader objectives of both Providence and Booth, this degree enables graduates to: think intelligently and critically about the world around them, and consider ways Christians can contribute meaningfully and practically to society; enter the workforce in Christian, government, and public sector programs working in the community with people in need.
All students in degree programs are required to take a minimum of courses in a variety of general arts and sciences so as to enable them to acquire an adequate foundation and context for their chosen area of studies, and to develop a critical appreciation of scholarship in general.
Biblical and Theological Studies establish anchor points for effective Christian thinking, living, and serving in the church and in society. The Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences deepen the understanding and heighten the appreciation of human nature, thoughts, cultures, and societies. Music and Theatre foster the musical and dramatic expression of the human spirit, condition, and experience.
