Israel Travel Study: April 28 - May 8, 2014

Providence University College and Theological Seminary is offering a travel-study opportunity: Dr. Gus Konkel will be leading a group of students on a tour of Israel, with special attention to biblical and archaeological sites. Explore the ancient ruins of cities and fortresses mentioned in the Bible, visit the holy sites of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and experience modern life in the Holy Land - all for course credit!

Registration Information

Students who wish to take the trip for course credit may take the following courses:
University College:

142.21 Historical Geography - A study of the geography of Israel as it relates to biblical history. (Cross-credited with History for History minors)

144.30 Archaeology II: Field Study - An application of basic methods of archaeological field work through the excavation of a biblical site in Israel, to integrate the data derived from the investigation with what is known about the culture and history of the people under study. (Prerequisites: 121.11, 121.12, and 144.21, or permission from the professor; cross-credited with Anthropology for Anthropology minors)

Theological Seminary:

OT5203 Archaeology and Geography in the Old Testament Period - The course will provide an introduction to the historical geography of the land of Israel up to the beginning of the second temple period. Archaeological methodology and evidence for understanding the history of the land will be discussed, with a focus on the excavation and interpretation of selected sites.

Students must register for their courses separately from their travel arrangements. To register for these courses, contact Jeff Wheeldon in the Registrar's Office.

  • Tour Cost: $3450 from Winnipeg; $3000 from Toronto

  • Winnipeg Departure: Monday April 28, 2:35 p.m Richardson International Airport

  • Toronto Departure: Monday April 28, 5:45 p.m. Pearson International Airport

  • Toronto Return: Thursday May 8, 5:35 a.m.

  • Winnipeg Return: Thursday May 8, 9:46 a.m.

Tour cost includes airfare, all transportation, accommodations, meals and fees in Israel. Price is based on double occupancy in rooms with two beds. Tour operators in Israel are asking for a total number of guests by Mar. 15, 2014.

Bonaventure Travel in Winnipeg will make all ticket purchases. They will require:

  1. Your full name exactly as it appears on your passport
  2. Your birthdate
  3. Deposit of $500 by Mar. 15, 2014 
  4. Full payment by March 28
