Providence Professor Appointed Fellow at Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics
Michael Gilmour, an Associate Professor of New Testament and English Literature at Providence University College, was recently appointed Fellow at Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, and on April 25 his work was featured in the Faith section of the Winnipeg Free Press.
“One of the emphases of the gospels is compassion for the most vulnerable among us and loving across boundaries,” he tells writer Brenda Suderman. “It seems to me animals fit into that broad category.”

Providence president David Johnson says Gilmour is a “mainstay” of the school’s Biblical Studies program.
“His scholarship is biblically sound and his topics are always cutting edge,” says Johnson.
“Gilmour continues to engage in the kind of theological and ethical thinking that helps to transform one’s sense of their place in the world,” adds Academic Dean Cameron McKenzie. “It’s a pleasure to see the global scholarly community recognizing his contributions in this way.”
Providence students, graduates and faculty are doing exciting things on campus and in the world at large. Have a look.
