Providence University College is pleased to announce the publishing of a book, Confessions of a Not-so-Average Girl, by one of our alumna, Donna Lea Dyck (McMartin), BA 1981. Donna and her husband, Bill, have served in pastoral ministry for 28 years.
When your world is crumbly who picks up the pieces? For many young kids and youth whose lives are falling apart, there are few books you can give them. This book, Confession of a No-so-Average Girl, is one. In it, Donna chronicles her own life growing up in a dysfunctional home.
If your daughter’s best friend is dealing with parents who are splitting up, or maybe dad drinks, what can you give this girl who doesn’t go to church? She has never met Jesus. You want something simple and practical. Confessions of a Not-so-Average Girl demonstrates to that young girl that she is not alone. Jesus is ready to walk with her in the middle of her mess. The book is written in a non-threatening and simple manner. There are very few books you could give this girl. If you were a family counselor, youth or childrens pastor, this book could be a powerful vehicle for delivering hope to this young person’s life.
Confessions of a Not-so-Average Girl chronicles the journey of growing up amidst alcoholism and many other challenges that are common in every generation. Donna tells her story with brutal honesty and yet with humour sprinkled throughout. You will see her journey, as Jesus becomes her Savoir and best friend in the middle of the mess. This story demonstrates Donna’s hope and the healing she experienced as she chose to invite Jesus to be a part of her journey. May this true story inspire many to do the same.
