Alumni and friends of Providence invited to tour Israel with Mile Two Discipleship School
2017-11-15

“If it’s your first time in the Holy Land you can expect an experience that will change the way you read the Bible for the rest of your life.”

Jeff Banman will travel to Israel for a fourth time in February. The Director of Providence-based Mile Two Discipleship School, he leads his students on a much-anticipated tour of the Holy Land each winter. In 2018 the group will be even larger as Providence alumni and friends of the institution are invited to join him, Mile Two and co-host Cameron McKenzie, Academic Dean of Providence University College, on the 11-day excursion.

(Interested travellers can visit the Mile Two website or email Banman for more information.)

It will be an opportunity, says Banman, for former students and Providence supporters to both journey alongside Mile Two and draw on McKenzie’s companionship and teaching. As he likes to point out, experiencing sites such as Jerusalem, Jericho, Bethlehem, Caesarea Philippi and the Sea of Galilee will enable visitors to read the Bible “in colour.”

“I remember my first trip to Israel and trying, probably unsuccessfully, to restrain my excitement at every new stop we came to,” Banman recalls. “It was thrilling to see and touch these places I had read about so often. Now I get a lot of joy from watching other people experience these sites for the first time. I love seeing their faces light up with a Bible in their hands as they read about the place they’re standing in.”

The upcoming tour, which will run February 24-March 6, will depart from Winnipeg and include terrific food and excellent hotels built into an all-inclusive price of $3,750.

“Our guests can expect to visit an average of three or four sites every day, and each will be introduced by a local guide who can give an explanation of the site and answer any and all questions. We’ll also have opportunities to talk with locals and hear first-hand perspectives of what it’s like to live in the Holy Land today.”

He adds: “Everyone can expect a rich time of learning, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and new friendships.”
