Pilots club teams represent Providence on national stage
2016-05-25

Fresh off their impressive Provincial Championship victory, the Jr. Pilots 14U Boys volleyball team has won a Division 1, Tier 1 silver medal at this month’s National Championship in Winnipeg.

In all, the Providence club program dispatched seven teams to National Championship tournaments throughout western Canada, and each of them progressed at least as far as the quarter-finals in their categories.

Both the 15U Boys (Division 1, Tier 2) and 18U Girls (Division 2, Tier 2) went all the way to the semi-finals in Regina and Edmonton, respectively, while the 14U Girls (Division 1, Tier 3), 15U Girls (Division 2, Tier 1), 16U Boys (Division 1, Tier 2), and 17U Boys (Division 1 Tier 3) were quarter-finalists in Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, and Saskatoon.

“In our four years as a club we have already established ourselves in Manitoba and are now showing well on the national stage,” says Kyle Guenther, who heads the club program at Providence. “These young athletes work so hard and it’s great to see not only great results but also the way in which they represent the program.”

As for the 14U Boys, Guenther hails their appearance in the Championship Final as a “great achievement” and says the team “will be quite something to watch for years to come.”

He adds: “I am confident our athletes will go into the school season more confident in their abilities. I want to thank all the athletes, coaches, and parents for countless hours of practices, tournaments, and driving this season.”
