Providence celebrates Class of 2016
Providence honoured 141 graduates and an Honorary Doctorate recipient over five days of festivities at the Otterburne campus.
The celebrations began Wednesday, April 20 with the Mile Two Discipleship School Graduation Banquet, at which 14 students received their Certificates for completing the immersive, eight-month program. Each graduate was recognized by the Mile Two leadership team, and a slideshow presented the 2015-16 schoolyear’s highlights, which included a trip to Israel.
On Friday morning the Providence-based Modern Language Institute conferred its TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificates, honouring 10 students with a Certificate of TESOL, three with a Graduate Certificate of TESOL, and one with a Graduate Certificate of TTESOL (Teaching Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
In the afternoon all graduates were invited to the Howison Room, where they were served High Tea by impeccably trained Providence staff.
Friday evening featured the Seminary Graduation Banquet, and the 2016 Seminary graduates were convocated on Saturday morning. Gavin Hall of the Seminary Advisory Council gave the Invocation, after which Providence President Dr. David Johnson welcomed those in attendance.
Following a performance of J.S. Bach’s Prelude from Suite No. 1 in G Major by Dr. Karen Sunabacka, Rev. Ronald Grant Evans, who also received an Honorary Doctorate from Providence during the ceremony, delivered the Graduation Address.
The morning’s Graduation Exercise also included a Valedictorian Address from Master of Arts in Counselling graduate Gaylene Lowey and Providence Board Chair Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht’s Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Saturday’s banquet shifted attention to the University College, which held its ceremony on Sunday afternoon, following the Baccalaureate Service and luncheon.
Terry Kennedy, Library Director at Providence, delivered the Invocation, and once again Dr. David Johnson offered a Welcome to the graduates, their families, and the faculty and staff in attendance. Ralph Enlow, who was also presented with the Distinguished Christian Leadership Award, gave the afternoon’s Graduation Address, after which the Providence Chamber Singers performed Emily Crocker’s Jubilate Deo.
The University College Graduation Exercise then convocated 62 degree recipients, and Jordan Reimer, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (Hons.), delivered the Valedictorian Address.
