Field Service

The mission of Providence University College is to educate people at a university level to think, live and serve as Christians in society and the church. This mission is expressed through classroom academics, student life, corporate worship, and practical ministry experience.

Field Service is a supervised volunteer experience in a church, para-church, or community organization. As a graduation requirement, it is an integral part of a student’s overall educational experience and is an expression of their personal Christian commitment.

Philosophy of Field Service:

  1. Servanthood is a natural expression of the Christian life. Field Service provides students with experiences in serving God and His Church.

  2. Every follower of Christ possesses spiritual gifts and abilities. Field Service is a place where students get a chance to discover, affirm, develop, and utilize their gifts, and in doing so, develop their own philosophy of serving.

  3. The call to discipleship is a call to servant leadership. Field Service gives the opportunity to deepen their own understanding of what it means to be a servant in attitude and action.

  4. Students learn to give of themselves in the church, in society, and in everyday living and in doing so, expand their own spheres of influence as well as the kingdom of God.

The Field Service Coordinator works with students in finding opportunities suited to both the needs and the abilities of each student. Students are encouraged to serve in a number of different settings, enabling them to adequately put into practice principles learned in the classroom.
