International Students make up 15% of the student body at Providence, and are offered a variety of services to help them transition to student life in Canada. Providence programs and services are designed to help international students before and after their arrival to Canada ensuring their educational experience is successful, enjoyable, and safe. Providence has a dedicated team working for international students that include:
The International Admissions Counsellors help students with applications and provide the necessary documents to apply at a Canada Visa Office for Study Permits and Canada entry visas (if required).
The International Student Services Coordinator leads “Orientation to Canada” classes for new international students upon their arrival. Ongoing services include assistance in settling in new accommodations, continued orientation, help with immigration applications (study permits, work permits, etc.), administrating health insurance, setting up bank accounts, and assisting with driver licencing and vehicle safety.
Three student leaders called International Assistants (IAs) provide community life programming specific to the needs of international students. The IAs also organize international student led chapels for spiritual well-being.
An International Representative (IR) on the University College Student Council helps voice the opinions and concerns of the international student population. The IR works with the International team to ensure the incorporation of relevant programming for the international student.
And don’t forget the International Shuttle Bus Service to Winnipeg every Friday night; transportation is a vital need for the international student, many of whom do not have a driver’s licence or have access to a car. The shuttle service provides access to a large Winnipeg mall with a wide variety of retail and grocery stores.
