Steve Masterson
1972 B.A. Bible and Theology
Steve Masterson earned a bachelor Arts degree from Providence College in 1972 with a major in Bible and Theology. He received a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Trinity International University in 1974 and a Master of Arts in Counselling from Grace Theological Seminary in 1983.
Steve served at Providence for twenty-four years in various capacities. He was Dean of Students at Providence College for a number of years. At Providence Seminary Steve founded the counselling department and served as Professor of Counselling. The counselling degree program became the premier training site for Christian counsellors in Canada. Steve left Providence in 1997 to join the staff of Promise Keepers Canada where he now serves as Director of Spiritual Formation. Steve is recognized for his compassion and pastoral ministry, particularly toward men facing the various crises and addictions of manhood in modern western society. Many men first came to know Christ personally through Steve’s ministry. Steve is also a well-known speaker and seminar leader. With his wife Jackie, Steve has conducted countless marriage seminars throughout North America, including numerous seminars among the Inuit peoples. Steve will retire from Promise Keepers next year.
With Ron Pearce and Empower Ministries Steve has recently served in various ways in south Asia among persecuted Christians. While he was at Providence, Steve wrote a popular book, Out of the Locker Room of the Male Soul.
Steve and Jackie have been married for 42 years. They have four children and five grandchildren. Their son Scott is the Athletic Director and women’s volleyball coach at Providence.
