Providence Classic an Unprecedented Success

The 17th Providence Classic surpassed all expectations.
Held just east of Steinbach at The Links at Quarry Oaks, the annual golf tournament brought nearly 150 participants together on what was a warm, sunny afternoon and saw fundraising expectations surpassed.
Donations from the June 9 event were more than double the 2014 number, and 11 new tournament sponsors and 27 new prize sponsors were added to the roster of Providence supporters.
All monies raised are earmarked for scholarships and bursaries.
“We are thrilled by the results of the tournament that, in a very meaningful way, will help Providence prepare students to be difference-makers, using their education and experience at Providence to make the world a better place,” says Irma McKenzie, Associate Vice President for Development.
Overall there were 30 raffle packages and 13 silent auction prizes from 69 sponsors on offer.
“For those Jets and Bombers fans we had a few signed prizes in the silent auction,” says Melissa Bechard, Development Special Events Assistant. “We had extremely generous prize donors.”
Throughout the afternoon the 144 golfers enjoyed course’s Oak and Quarry nines, and the Chez Koop foursome of Chris Koop, Ray Koop, Rick Loewen and Sean Ashton finished as tournament winners.
Following the golf a chicken-and-ribs dinner was served and prizes were drawn.
“The personal highlights of the day were the fantastic weather, the new golfers we had this year and the success of the silent auction,” says Gary Schellenberg, Director of Institutional Services. “The volunteers also did a great job.”
