Jamestown Overpowers Freemen in Blowout Victory
Alyssa Coutts minds the net in Jamestown

After a pair of tough losses on the weekend, Providence’s Women’s Soccer squad went into their match-up against the Jamestown Jimmies looking for a more positive result. However, the ladies left the game unable to compete against a more skilled Jimmies squad.

It was a game that saw the Jimmies controlling the play from start to finish, and the Lady Freemen having difficulties creating chances for themselves. A more skilled Jimmies squad was able to control and switch the play to keep the Lady Freemen on their heels for the game’s entirety.

Despite the disappointing effort the girls were able to come away optimistic about the strong play from goaltender Alyssa Coutts. The sophomore was able to make an amazing 22 saves and make plays on 10 corner kicks to give a strong performance to lead the Lady Freemen defensively.

After a tough loss Coach Janke left the game disappointed in the result, but optimistic that the competition will make them a better team in the future.

“Overall it was discouraging for the girls to play a hard ninety minutes and come away with this result.” Coach Janke commented. “But they never stopped playing with intensity, and we were even able to keep possession and control of the game for a short time in the second half. Getting the chance to play good teams like Jamestown helps us to improve defensively and learn how to control the game when under more pressure from opposing teams.”
