Pilots Men’s Basketball Face Tall Task at Regionals

The Providence Men’s Basketball team has played some tough teams really well this year. This team has given some top local and national teams all that they can handle at very points of the season. They would need to pull out something special as they faced off against the top seed NCU Rams, who are also ranked sixth in the NCCAA Divison II across the United States.

The Rams were the ones that came out with something special in the first half against the Pilots. NCU dropped shot after shot and put up 53 points in the first half. The Rams shot 61% from the field which the Pilots didn’t have an answer for. Despite being ahead in every other category statistically, Providence was down on the score sheet 53-35 heading into recess.

The Pilots evened out the play after the break and outscored the Rams 38-36 in the second half but it wasn’t enough to cut into the lead that NCU had built up in the first half. With a final score of 89-73, NCU advanced the Regional final and the Pilots season came to an end.

Providence had four players in double figures with Raymond Hiebert leading the way with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Rigueson Desorvil added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Senior Eric Johnson had 13 points and Matt Johns finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The Providence Pilots finished with a .500 record of 14-14 and was highlighted with making it to the MCAC championship final. This team has shown they are capable of great things and will look to improve upon this great season next year.
