Women’s Basketball Competes at NCCAA Regional Championships

The Providence Pilots Women’s Basketball team entered the North Central Regional Championship in Minneapolis as the fourth seed. This would mean their semi-final opponent would be the top seed and host NCU Rams.

The Pilots and Rams clashed one other time during the season where the Rams edged Providence 59-55 in a very close affair. The Region semi-final would be more of the same from these two teams. NCU started the game on fire and seemed to make every shot they put up. The Pilots tried to keep pace but saw the Rams pull away and take a 15 point lead into half time.

The Providence defense stepping up combined with the Rams shooting percentage coming back to Earth made for an exciting second half. A balanced attack from the Pilots got them right back in the game. Heading into the final minutes, the Pilots tried to one final push to even up the score. Region MVP Jamie High of the Rams would put an end to the Pilots hope of an upset however. High finished the game with 24 points and 17 rebounds and lead her team over the Pilots 70-62.

As mentioned, the scoring from Providence was spread out quite evenly. Isabella Selk and Megan Riediger both had 11 points to lead the Pilots while Brenna Riediger and Katie Ivey added 10 points each. The Pilots’ bench outscored the Rams bench 25-0 in the losing effort.

The Pilots will travel to Joplin, Missouri this week to participate in the ACCA National Championship to close out their season.
