Pilots take on Rebels

The Providence women’s volleyball team took to the court on Saturday afternoon against Red River. The Pilots were looking for their second MCAC win of the season. The ladies had faced Red River earlier in the season at their home MCAC exhibition tournament and faired very well winning 3 sets to 0. Saturday was no different as the Pilots swept the Rebels 3-0 building their early lead on first place in the league. Providence plays next at home against CMU on Friday night, which will be the volleyball alumni appreciation night.

The men’s game was a different pace for the Pilots. Red River who has been a top contender for years in the MCAC, looks to have another strong season. The Pilots lost earlier this season in exhibition play to the Rebels 3 sets to 0. Providence lost the first set 25-15 but was able to come back in the second set flipping the table to win 25-15 themselves. Set three went the way of the Rebels as they took it 25 to 19. Set four mirrored set three as the Pilots won 25-19 forcing a 5th set. Providence made a push but couldn’t defeat the Rebels as they lost 17-15. The Pilots are now 1-1 in MCAC play and will look ahead to Friday night when they host the Blazers. Key players for the Pilots were, Matt Friesen with 17 Kills, 2 aces, 12 digs and a 2.47 passing average, and Tyler Picklyk Enns who had 10 kills, 3 aces, and a 2.41 passing average.
