Volleyball Takes Flight
2014-10-29

This past Saturday night, the Providence University College Pilots opened their MCAC season with wins over the St. Boniface Les Rouges.

The Women’s team started off the night with a bang as the first set was over in a matter of minutes. The Pilots won the set 25-10 in convincing fashion. The wheels starting falling off after that however, as the Pilots starting making error after error. In what seemed to be a completely difference match from the first set, St. Boniface took the second and third sets 25-18, 25-21. Providence was able to come back in the fourth set (25-15) and level the match at two sets each. The Pilots put up a fight in the fifth but fell to the visiting Pilots team 15-11 in the fifth and deciding set.

“This wasn’t the start we were hoping for in our first match of the MCAC season,” says Assistant Coach Kyle Guenther. “We made a lot of errors and didn’t bring a whole lot of energy throughout this match. I am glad we found a way to win in the end but this certainly was a learning experience for all of us.”

The Men’s team took the floor next and handled St. Boniface in a much easier way. The Pilots were in control almost the entire match. The match ended in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 score line for the Pilots. Big hitting, strong defensive play and an overall calmness to their play, Providence looks poised to be a factor in the MCAC this season. Although the team is fairly young this year, they bring a lot of excitement and energy to the league.
