Pilots Wrap Up Regular Season in MCAC

The Men’s soccer team from Providence finished the regular season playing away to undefeated and league leading Les Rouges from St. Boniface University. With both teams playing well defensively, it was a game with only a few scoring chances. Providence opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Niverville’s Ryan Fast set up a nice passing play to Peter Garrecht who flicked the ball to Eric Plett who finished calmly into the corner of the net. Ten minutes into the second half, Les Rouge tied the game up and the play remained even to the end to leave the game tied 1-1.

“I thought we put in a good performance today and I am happy with the way we are progressing as a team,” said Coach Martin Ward of his team. “We are defending solidly and we went through the second half of the MCAC season undefeated, which is a big improvement from the first half. The MCAC has been very competitive this year and the championship weekend should be challenging and exciting. We are ready to play some good soccer and looking forward to playing at home and having our fans making some noise.”

The Women’s team had the weekend off before the MCAC Championships on October 25th and 26th. The Women head into next weekend as the number one seed and will face the fourth ranked CMU Blazers at 1:30pm on Saturday, October 25th in their semi-final game. The Men secured the second seed in the MCAC and will face off against the third ranked Red River Rebels at 3:30pm following the women.

The MCAC soccer championships will be held at Providence University College with games starting at 9:00am on Saturday, October 25th. The championship game for the Women will take place at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 26th with the Men’s championship to follow at 3:00pm.
