Pilots Capture Home Invitational

Pilots Women’s Volleyball Home Invitational A Success

This past weekend, Providence University College hosted their annual Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament. This tournament has been filled with teams from the Manitoba Colleges Athletics Conference for the last number of years. This year was no different as CMU, Red River, ACC from Brandon, and the U of W college team joined the host, Providence Pilots.

The Pilots kicked off the weekend with a straight sets win over the CMU Blazers on Friday. The second match for the home team saw another straight sets victory, this time over the ACC Cougars from Brandon.

Saturday morning was the key matchup of the weekend. The U of W College Wesmen, who beat Providence in last year’s MCAC Championship game, faced off against the Pilots. Both teams came out with a lot of energy but it was the home team who had the edge in this match. Providence took the match three sets to none. The final match of the round robin format had Providence take out Red River in straight sets to advance to the Gold medal game.

It played out that the College Wesmen would get another shot at Providence in the Championship match of the tournament. U of W came out stronger than the morning match with great defense and big blocking. After trading the first two sets, the Pilots settled in and took the third set. With the championship on the horizon, U of W wasn’t going down without a fight. Back and forth play forced this set to go into overtime where the Pilots dug deep and took the final set in dramatic fashion, 28-26.

In front of an incredible crowd, the Providence Pilots captured their annual Home Invitational for the second year in a row.
