Providence Signs Clarice Martens

The Providence women’s volleyball team is pleased to announce that starting middle Clarice Martens from the Boissevain Broncos, will be joining the 2012 roster. Martens who had many offers from teams in the ACAC decided to join her older sister at Providence. This 6’0” middle comes from a strong volleyball family, from which she will be the 3rd daughter to crack a college roster.
Martens played 4 years varsity in Boissevain where she captained the team in her senior year. In her junior year she was selected as a zone all star. Martens is a versatile player who is used to playing both middle and left side. Lately Clarice has been playing for the Triple Crown volleyball club, where she has been getting reps, hitting middle, in preparation for this upcoming season.
“Clarice is a great competitor and we look forward to her bringing that attitude to our team and to our practices,” said head coach Scott Masterson, “she is a very athletic, skilled middle, and we are excited to be able to start working with her.”
Providence looks to have another strong season despite the graduation of star middle Victoria Ryshytylo who leaves after playing 4 strong seasons for Providence. The departure of Ryshytylo leaves plenty of opportunity for freshmen Martens to prove herself to be a starter and possibly a star at this level.
