Pilots in the Playoffs
2014-02-19
With MCAC playoffs just around the corner, the pressure was on this weekend. Both the Men’s volleyball and Men’s basketball teams needed one win in two games this weekend to make the playoffs. Both teams did better than that, winning in each of their matches.

Men’s volleyball was in a do or die situation this weekend with playoffs on the line. Entering the game Providence held a 2 point lead for 4th place over the Universite de Saint-Boniface. The Pilots faced off against CMU on Friday night winning 3-1 (31-29, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23). Saint-Boniface needed to win their game on Friday to stay in the running but was unable to do so. With the Friday night win over CMU the Pilots clinched a playoff spot in their first season in the MCAC. Providence played Saint-Boniface on Saturday night and won 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-23) to put the cherry on the cake!

The women’s volleyball team clinched a playoff spot a week ago, but 1st place was still on the line this weekend. U of W College Wesmen put the pressure on with their back to back wins over ACC. Providence needed to beat CMU and USB to remain in the number 1 spot. On Friday night the Pilots would take care of business with some ease, winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18). Saturday did not go so smoothly with USB putting up a fight to prove their 3rd place finish. Saint-Boniface took the first and third sets pushing the Pilots to a fifth set finish. Providence was able to come up with a win in the fifth set, (25-27, 25-16, 25-16, 24-26, 15-9) to lock down 1st in the MCAC. The Pilots volleyball teams will now prepare for the MCAC playoffs which will take place at Canadian Mennonite University starting on Friday February 28.
