Volleyball News Update

Providence hosted volleyball at home against the Canadian Mennonite Blazers last Thursday. The Lady Freemen were hoping to come out and play a lot better than their disappointing performance at NCCAA Nationals. Overall, coach Masterson comments, “We definitely played stronger than we did at Nationals, but we still did not play up to the standard we were hoping for.” The team was happy to compete and get themselves the chances they needed but were unable to execute on the big points. The Lady Freemen lost to CMU 1-3 (27-29, 25-20, 18-25, 25-27).

Top stat getters:
Christa Penner -42 assists; Victoria Ryshytylo -14 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces; Chelsea Needham -12 kills, 2 blocks; Atira Clunis -6 kills, 7 blocks, 4 digs, 3 aces; Lauren -8 kills, 3 blocks, 9 digs; Katelyn Corbin -13 digs.

In further news, the men’s volleyball team swept over the CMU Blazers in three straight sets with a convincing 3-0; 25-16, 25-15, 25-16. The match was Providence’s fourth exhibition game of the season and illustrated the team’s talent and chemistry.
