Pilots vs Cougars

The Pilots volleyball teams traveled to Assiniboine Community College on Saturday morning for double headers in both men’s and women’s volleyball. The women’s team won both games 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) and 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-16). Coach Masterson had these words after the game, “I thought we played okay for the two matches. We are really struggling with our unforced errors right now and that is a concern for us. We feel like we are often in control of most of our matches and that it’s up to us as to how clean of a match we are going to play. I thought ACC played quite well and battled hard, forcing us to earn our points. So it was a good weekend for us overall.” The top stat getters in the first game were, Clarice Martens with 11 kills, 4 blocks, and 2 aces, Lauren Toews with 10 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces, and Nicole Boslovitch with 28 assists, 6 digs, and 1 ace. The second game had Lauren Toews with 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 aces, Jodi Lepp with 8 kills, 7 digs, and 1 ace, and Kate Osadchuk with 8 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces.
The men faired much the same as the women winning both games 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-12), and 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-10). The men played well enough to win in straight sets against ACC but will need more consistency to win the MCAC. This weekend was an improvement and back to back wins were much needed as the Pilots work back up the rankings. With these wins the Pilots find themselves back at .500 with an 8-8 record. The next action for the Pilots volleyball teams is against the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen on Saturday at 1pm, and 3pm at the Duckworth Center.
