Pilots men’s soccer team signs midfielder with playing experience in Mexico and Spain
Jorge Alva Vilchis will bring an impressive soccer CV to Providence this season.
Having played in both Mexico and Spain (he has represented the youth teams of high-profile Mexican clubs Pachuca and Toluca), the midfielder recently signed his letter of intent and is looking forward to putting his skills to work at university level.
“I’m really happy and proud to represent Providence,” he says. “It’s an opportunity I’ll not waste. I’m going to work very hard. My studies and soccer will go hand in hand.”
A midfielder who sees the pitch well and can control the rhythm of a match, Alva Vilchis also adds elements of size and technical ability to the Pilots.
“He can keep the ball and pick out penetrating passes,” explains Providence head coach Joey Passi. “He’s also the type of player who has the skill-set to play multiple positions, and that will benefit us tremendously.”
The Pilots will kick off their 2017 season with an alumni match during next month’s Welcome Week and will then travel to Brandon for a showdown with the Bobcats on September 10.
