Pilots men’s basketball team adds committed all-around athlete
Kaan Bitchok was a 2017 Graduating AAA Basketball All Star with the College Lorette Collegiate Scorpions and was named to the All-Manitoba First Team. Even he admits his Grade 12 year was outstanding.
“My last season in high school was great,” he says. “I couldn’t have asked for a better year.”
Given the awards he’s won, as well as the fact that his experience in baseball, hockey and football make him a unique, all-around athlete, Bitchok will no doubt become a key member of the Providence Pilots men’s basketball team in short order. The 5’11” guard signed his letter of intent at the Otterburne campus last week.
But it’s his team-first mentality, explains high school coach Graham Collier, that will serve botch Bitchok and his new Pilots teammates well.
“It’s his commitment to his teams that really stands out,” says Collier, adding that Bitchok would often “play his heart out” for his high school hockey team before rushing to the gym and doing the same for his basketball squad. “I’ve had the opportunity to witness his development as an athlete and, more importantly, a person. He has matured into a fine young man.”
Bitchok, for his part, can’t wait to play his first game with the Pilots.
“I’m very excited for my first year at Prov,” he says. “I think it’ll be great to practice with talented players to further my skills.”
The Pilots will play their first game of the 2017-18 season October 21 at the University of Jamestown, North Dakota.
