Pilots women post first futsal victory
The Providence Pilots women’s futsal team entered the win column, Saturday, after beating the Assiniboine Community College Cougars 7-6 in Brandon.
They followed up the victory with a disappointing 6-1 defeat to the Brandon University Bobcats, but overall head coach Tory Walker was pleased with the progress he saw over the weekend.
“We needed to get our first win this weekend, and the women came out and got one,” he said. “When we played BU we executed our game plan in the first half, and only trailed 2-1, but then the wheels came off and they scored four quick goals on us. It was a good weekend, though, and I feel we’re starting to play some good futsal.”
On the men’s side the Pilots played to an entertaining 8-8 draw at ACC before losing 7-3 at BU.
In volleyball, both Providence teams recorded a pair of wins over the weekend, and the Pilots women consolidated first place in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference with victories over Les Rouges de l’Universite de Saint-Boniface (3-0) and the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen (3-2).
The men’s team also beat USB in straight sets and required only four to see of the U of W. Adrian Dyck executed 34 kills over the weekend and Tyler Picklyck Enns recorded 11 kills, five blocks and five aces.
“We have been working on some key areas of our game and we did a great job of executing them,” remarked head coach Scott Masterson.
Finally, the men’s basketball team defeated the Wesmen 91-70 in their final home match of the season while the women’s game against the U of W was abandoned following a non-contact injury to a visiting player.
