Women’s soccer team signs experienced defender with a love for the game
(Tory Walker; Lindsey Dueck)
Lindsey Dueck recently travelled to Scotland with her club team, Phoenix FC, which faced the development sides of Celtic, Greenock Morton and Queens Park. A talented defender who Providence Pilots women’s soccer coach Tory Walker can’t wait to work with, Dueck will attend Providence beginning in September and will represent the Pilots.
“Lindsey has played a high level of soccer in Winnipeg for the last seven years, which makes her a very experienced player,” says Walker. “So far this off-season we’ve been building up from the back-line, and I’m very excited to be able to sign a player with Lindsey’s experience and level of play.”
The captain of her River East Collegiate Kodiaks high school team, Dueck was named Athlete of the Month for September 2016 by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association.
Walker also values Dueck’s love for the game, pointing out that she volunteered during the 2015 Women’s World Cup and has worked with inner-city soccer teams through the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association.
“Lindsey is a key part of the future of the Providence women’s soccer program,” he says.
Adds Dueck: “I’m really excited to be joining the Providence Pilots and am looking forward to what next year will bring.”
