Multi-sport athlete joins Pilots men’s volleyball team
Brett Foley graduated from Portage la Prairie’s Westpark School with Honours and as an All-Star in both basketball and volleyball. He was also the Portage Sea Lions Top Male Swimmer and the Portage Junkyard Dogs Triathlete of the Year.
No doubt Foley could have pursued numerous sports at university level, but it’s as a 6’5” middle with the Providence Pilots men’s volleyball team that he’ll look to make an impact during the 2016-17 season.
Foley, who was also Valedictorian of his graduating class, signed for the Pilots in late July and, according to head coach Scott Masterson, is poised to excel as both on and off the court at Providence.
“Brett brings a great work ethic and attitude and is going to be a great addition to our team and our school,” said Masterson, who is also Director of Athletics at Providence. “He’ll bring a big, physical presence to our team along with great athleticism. I’m really excited to work with him.”
Foley, meanwhile, can’t wait to arrive at the Otterburne campus.
“I am super excited to join Providence this year, both as an athlete and as a student,” he said.
A Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) Athlete of the Week, an “A” Basketball and Volleyball Provincial Game Star and an “A” Basketball Provincial Players Choice Award winner, Foley joins a team that dropped only nine sets en route to the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) championship last season.
The Pilots will open their upcoming campaign in Carenport, Saskatchewan on Friday, September 9.
