Providence Classic provides support for students
More than $60,000 was raised by the 18th Providence Classic, which brought 148 golfers, numerous Providence staff and faculty volunteers, alumni, and student representatives together on a pleasant June 14th at The Links at Quarry Oaks.
Nearly 50 prizes were up for grabs through raffles and silent auctions, including Winnipeg Jets tickets and autographed merchandise, and 30 Tournament Sponsors contributed nearly $45,000 to Providence through the event.
All monies raised will support the Providence Fund, which provides scholarships to students.
“I was thrilled to see the enthusiasm with which our sponsors stepped up to support Providence students through the Classic,” says Irma McKenzie, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at Providence. “It was complemented by the generous and eager work of volunteers to make it such an enjoyable day for the golfers.”
McKenzie points out that, by participating in the annual Providence Classic tournaments, golfers and sponsors are enabled to be difference-makers in the lives of students who, themselves, go on to be difference-makers in various marketplaces and ministry settings around the world.
“That’s the real thrill and satisfaction coming out of this event,” she says.
Impressively, 11 sponsors have now partnered with the Providence Classic for at least 10 years, and five new sponsors were added to the roster for 2016.
On the course (golfers played the Oak and Quarry nines) the McMunn & Yates foursome finished the afternoon as winners, and following the golf a chicken-and-ribs dinner was served.
