Pilots men’s volleyball team adds high-level recruit
2016-04-29
Pierce Dresser was a standout student athlete at Linden Christian School, and Scott Masterson, Director of Athletics at Providence, thinks the Winnipegger will be a considerable “asset” to the Pilots men’s volleyball team and the Otterburne campus as a whole.

Dresser, a 5’11” setter, signed for the Pilots on April 15 and will attend Providence from the start of the 2016-17 schoolyear.

“Pierce is going to be such a positive addition,” says Masterson, who is also the head coach of the men’s volleyball program. “He brings solid character, work ethic, and leadership to everything he has been a part of throughout high school, and I only see that continuing here at Providence.”

Athletically, Dresser starred for both the volleyball and hockey teams at Linden and won numerous championships and individual awards in the two sports.

Earlier this year he won the MHSAA (Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association) Travis Price Hockey Award for Spirit and Leadership, and he was also named MVP of the AAA High School Volleyball Provincial Championship in 2015, which his Wings side won.

Additionally, Dresser served on Linden Christian School’s Student Council between Grades 7 and 11 and is currently LCS Student Council Co-President.

His community involvement has included humanitarian trips to Guatemala and Kenya, two years of volunteering with Winnipeg Harvest, and coaching with Athletes in Action.

“The skills, attitudes, and leadership abilities Pierce possesses strongly suggest he will continue to excel in all future academic studies,” says Wings volleyball coach Ryan Wiebe. “He is well-respected by the student body with regards to his abilities, integrity, and personal character.”

As a Pilot, Dresser will join a juggernaut team that won the MCAC (Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference) play-offs last season.

“I am very excited about joining the Pilots men’s volley program and for continuing my development as a person and as a player,” he says. “I look forward to contributing in any way I can for the success of the team.”
