Volleyball and basketball seasons in full swing
2015-11-06

The Providence Pilots women’s volleyball team is off to Kissimmee, Florida next week for the National Christian College Athletic Association’s National Championship.

First, however, is a Friday showdown with the Red River College Rebels in which they’ll look to win for the 18th time in 22 matches this season. The men’s side, which opened its schedule with a straight-sets win over Assiniboine Community College last month, will also face Red River.

Both matches will be played in Otterburne and will be streamed live from 6:00 p.m.

Also Friday is a men’s basketball contest between Providence and Aberdeen, South Dakota’s Presentation College Saints. The Pilots are coming off a 70-61 defeat to the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen and will also take on the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers on Saturday.

“If we can shoot the ball like I know we can then we will be a tough team to beat,” says head coach Colten Gryba. But, he adds, “We need to refocus quickly as we have two tough games this weekend.”

The Pilots women’s basketball team edged the Wesmen 50-44 on Wednesday and will next face the Blazers on Saturday.

Although he’s happy his players were able to “squeeze out a win” in Winnipeg head coach Joel Coursey maintains they “can play even better basketball.”
