Providence hosting soccer and volleyball matches this weekend
The powerhouse Pilots women’s volleyball team returns to action this weekend following a three-week, competitive hiatus with its Providence Invitational Tournament.
Having lost just one of its nine matches so far, and without a dropped set in four outings, the squad will welcome its Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) rivals to Otterburn on Friday and Saturday.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers are first on the Pilots schedule (Friday, 5:00 p.m.), and the ladies will also face the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen on Friday (8:00 p.m.) before contesting Le Rouges de l’Universite de Saint-Boniface (10:30 a.m.) and the Assiniboine Community College Cougars (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
Providence is ranked third on the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Division II leger, trailing only Wisconsin’s Maranatha Baptist University and Kentucky Christian University.
The women’s soccer team, meanwhile, is hoping a second appointment with Assiniboine Community College (Saturday, 1:00 p.m.) will breathe new life into its MCAC campaign following five straight losses—four of them to provincial rivals.
The Pilots beat the Cougars 2-0 back on September 12 but have scored just two goals since while conceding 23. They’ll kick off the weekend with a Friday match at home to Minneapolis-based North Central University at 1:00 p.m.
On the men’s side Providence is looking to snap a two-match losing skid against North Central University and Assiniboine Community College and could conceivably catch the Brandon University Bobcats—second in the MCAC—with a Saturday (3:00 p.m.) victory over ACC coupled with a Brandon loss to Universite de Saint-Boniface.
They’ll face North Central on Friday at 3:15 p.m.
All four of the weekend’s soccer matches can be watched on the Providence livestream site.
