Joel Coursey grew up watching his father and later his older brother play basketball for the Freemen. He comes from a tradition of attending Providence, and it was no surprise that he too would attend Providence and play for the men’s basketball team. It was following his senior year at Providence that he was hired on to the Providence staff as a student recruiter. At this time Joel was also hired as the assistant coach of women’s basketball. After nine months with Providence, Joel was named the Assistant Director of Athletics.
Joel has been influential in expanding the athletics program at Providence as he established a U17 women’s basketball team that would blaze the way for the Junior Prov volleyball club that was started by Scott Masterson in 2012.
Joel has a strong background in camp ministry, as he grew up living at Red Rock Bible Camp, where his father has been employed for over 30 years. It was a natural fit for Joel in the athletic department and after his first year on staff, he was named the Director of Sports Camps.
Joel has competed in many different sports over the years such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, and slalom skiing. Many people do not know that Joel’s first athletic passion is water skiing and closely followed by basketball. An unknown fact is that Joel has spent time as a background actor in various kids movies such as Beethoven Seven.
