Joel Coursey, a Providence graduate and local from Steinbach, played three seasons for the Freemen from 2008–2010. In his second season he was awarded MCAC athlete of the week. In the same season he was named to the MCAC All Conference Team. Coursey was recognized as one of the premiere post players in the league. In Coursey’s graduating season with the Freemen he was named one of two NCCAA North Central All Region Honorable Mentions.
This will be Joel Coursey’s second season as head coach at Providence. He was promoted from assistant coach during the off season after the 2011/12 season. Coursey coached under Patti Parker for this season, as the Freemen claimed second in the MCAC and third in the NCCAA North Central region. Coursey is the founder of the Junior Prov women’s U-17 club team. He started the program to help encourage rural girls to pursue basketball at a higher level.
