University College Returning Student Bursaries

Please be sure to have your application sent in before the deadline of the scholarships and bursaries. Some scholarships require a reference letter(s) from your pastor, teacher, professor, or community leader. If you are to include a reference letter, please include the following:

  1. How long your Referee has known you and in what capacity.
  2. A description of your character.
  3. Why your Referee thinks that you are qualified for the scholarship or bursary that you have applied for.

Brethren in Christ Bursary

Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary, $1500 (1 available)

This one-time bursary is available to returning University College students who demonstrate financial need, and who intend to go into Christian ministry. Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how they intend to use their education for future Christian Ministry.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be an International student.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

Latin American Indigenous Student Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Latin American Indigenous Student Bursary because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

This bursary is available to support Latin American Indigenous students (who are active members of a Latin American Indigenous community) that demonstrate financial need and are committed to using their education to support their Indigenous people group following graduation. Applicants must write a 500-word essay demonstrating financial need and giving a brief summary of their Indigenous heritage. In order to qualify to receive the above bursary, students must meet all of the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need (i.e. would not be able to pursue Canadian post-secondary education without financial assistance) by completing our “Demonstration of Financial Need” form;
  • Applicants are required to provide at least two letters of recommendation by Indigenous community leaders;
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership and experience in community service;
  • Applicants must be active members of a Latin American Indigenous Community (Comunidad Indigena);
  • Applicants must be enrolled as a full time student in either the EAL, EAP, UC or Seminary (24 credit hours over 2 semesters for UC students and 18 credit hours over 2 semesters for seminary students);
  • Applicants must meet the minimum APGA requirement of 2.0
  • When Providence has determined the student(s) having met the above criteria/requirements, the student(s) are deemed to qualify for this bursary. The bursary is awarded equally between 2 semesters (fall and winter). Each year, the bursary will be equally distributed between the applicants who fully meet the requirements of this bursary. The value of the bursary awarded each year may change therefore depending on the number of qualifying applicants.

Neufeld Family Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Neufeld Family Bursary because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

Neufeld Family Bursary, $1000 (1 available)

This one time bursary is available to students at Providence enrolled in a degree program. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and show basic Christian character and aptitude for ministry. Preference will be given to an international student.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Providence University College or Providence Theological Seminary degree program.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must demonstrate basic Christian character and aptitude for ministry.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1000, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The David Moravec Memorial Bursary

This is a one-time award available to returning students. Applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and are required to submit a letter of reference from a pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is making a difference in their life.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must demonstrate an exemplary dedication to Christ and His work.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $250, awarded in the second semester of that year

In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is making a difference in their life.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

The Ken R. Friesen Memorial Bursary

The Ken R. Friesen Memorial Bursary, $500 (2 available)

This is a one-time award that is available to returning students who express interest in continuing their studies in the field of Youth Leadership. Applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants are required to submit a letter of reference from a Pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is preparing him/her for life in Youth Ministry.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program, majoring in Youth Leadership.

When the above criteria/requirements are met the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The McGill Friesen Humanitarian Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The McGill Friesen Humanitarian Bursary because the deadline (Sunday, October 1, 2017) has passed.

The McGill Friesen Humanitarian Bursary, $1000 (1 available)

This is a one-time award that is available to returning students who express interest in project development or humanitarian aid. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and demonstrate good potential for Christian leadership. Applicants are required to submit a letter of reference from their sponsoring agency. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay outlining their project and how studying at Providence is preparing him/her for involvement in a developing country.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrolment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program

When the above criteria/requirements are met the recipient will receive $1000, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary, $1000 (Up to 5 available)

This one-time bursary is available annually to students attending Albright Church in Winnipeg as regular attendees or participants in the youth program. Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how studying at Providence will make a difference in their life.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how studying at Providence will make a difference in their life.
  • Applicants must submit a letter of reference form a member of the Albright Church Pastoral staff.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1000, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Tim Gamble Memorial Award $1,000

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Tim Gamble Memorial Award $1,000 because the deadline (Sunday, October 1, 2017) has passed.

This award is available to a current Aboriginal or Metis student studying at Providence University College who demonstrates financial need, or for a student involved in ministry to the Aboriginal or Metis people.

Award Requirements:

  • Applicants must submit a 250 word essay outlining how they intend to use their education for future Christian ministry
  • Applicants must be a current student in good standing
  • applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the three semester year
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need

The recipient will receive a $1,000 bursary to be applied to the second semester of their studies at Providence University College.

Application Procedure The applicant must submit the following:

  • A letter of reference from their pastor
  • A letter stating how studying at Providence will make a difference in their life
