University College Entrance Scholarships

Please be sure to have your application sent in before the deadline of the scholarships and bursaries. Some scholarships require a reference letter(s) from your pastor, teacher, professor, or community leader. If you are to include a reference letter, please include the following:

  1. How long your Referee has known you and in what capacity.
  2. A description of your character.
  3. Why your Referee thinks that you are qualified for the scholarship or bursary that you have applied for.



Aviation Academic Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for Aviation Academic Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

Aviation Academic Scholarship, Sponsored by the Laurel C. Turnbull Estate $500 (2 available)

This scholarship is available to new students entering a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Aviation. Students applying for this scholarship must show potential in both aviation and academic studies. Please comment on how this scholarship will assist you in meeting your financial goals while attending Providence.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program majoring in Aviation.
  • Recipient must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • Recipient must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester.

This application will be considered only after a formal application to Providence University College has been received. As part of the formal application process, you must have your high school send an official transcript covering all your high school studies within one semester of completion.

Aviation Career Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Aviation Career Scholarship.

Aviation Career Scholarship, $2250 to $3000 (1 available)

This scholarship is available to a new student entering a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Aviation. Applicants must submit a letter of reference/recommendation from a high school teacher or community leader and an essay outlining their aviation goals for the future.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program, majoring in Aviation.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $750 per year, awarded in the second semester of each year in their program.

Black Forest Academy Leadership Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for Black Forest Academy Leadership Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

This scholarship is available to BFA students who have achieved good academic standing and has exhibited leadership ability in their academic career. This scholarship is awarded by the Providence University College Financial Aid Committee along with the Guidance Department at BFA. In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.

Buller Business Administration Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for Buller Business Administration Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

Buller Business Administration Scholarship First Year, $500 (2 available)

This one-time scholarship is available to new students entering a Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Business Administration. Students applying for this scholarship must show potential in both Business Administration and academic studies.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.5.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program majoring in Business Administration.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester.

Buller Entrepreneurship Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for Buller Entrepreneurship Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

Buller Entrepreneurship Scholarship, Full Tuition - 1 Year (1 available)

This one time scholarship is available to new students who are entering a Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Business Administration. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay of 400 words outlining a business or entrepreneurial activity they started while in high school.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.5.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program majoring in Business Administration.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive reimbursement for tuition each semester. This does not include student fees. Disbursement of funds will take place within 4 weeks after semester start date. A reduction of credit hours (less than 12 cr.) within the semester in which Buller Entrepreneurship Scholarship was received, will result in forfeit of the scholarship amount for the respective semester.

Students must show potential as well as leadership in their ministry that they are involved in, as well as desire to receive further training for ministry at Providence University College. Applicants must submit a letter of reference/recommendation from a Pastor or Christian leader and an essay outlining their ministry goals for the future.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

Music Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for Music Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

Music Scholarship, Sponsored by the Laurel C. Turnbull Estate $500 (1 available)

This scholarship is available to new students entering a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Music. Applicants must submit a letter of reference/recommendation from a high school or music director, an essay outlining their music experience and goals for the future as well as an audition tape or live audition. The audition tape must contain two contrasting pieces/movements, ex. a Bach piece & a 20th century piece. For the live audition, applicants will need to provide their own pianist and arrange a suitable audition time with the music professors.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program, majoring in music.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

President's Academic Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for President's Academic Scholarship until the end of Wednesday, August 31, 2016.

The President’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence, Sponsored by the Lightcap Foundation $2500 (1 available)

A Providence education is founded on academic excellence. The President’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence will be automatically given to the student who has achieved the highest academic averages in high school grades 11-12 (those applying to Providence within 6 months of high school graduation). This scholarship requires no separate interview, essay, portfolio, audition, or competition.

* High-school transcripts based upon a GPA or Letter Grades are also eligible for the PSAE based upon equivalency. If your high-school marks are calculated as letter grades or GPA, please contact us for a transcript review.

You are eligible to receive The President’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence amount if all of the following criteria is met:

  • You have submitted all application material (application form, relevant official transcript, and application fee) by August 31;
  • You have graduated from Canadian, US, or international ACSI high school within the last six months;

The PSAE will be awarded, provided the recipient is registered at Providence University College for 12 or more credit hrs. per semester within their first year of studies.

Disbursement of Funds

The award will be given to students during two consecutive semesters and divided equally for each semester. Disbursement of funds will take place within 4 weeks after semester start date. A reduction of credit hours (less than 12 cr.) within the semester in which the PSAE award was received, will result in forfeit of the scholarship amount for the respective semester.

Application Process

No scholarship application is necessary. Submitting a standard Providence University College admissions application will automatically qualify students. University College applications received prior to August 31 will be eligible to receive the PSAE.

Grade Criteria

This scholarship will be based on grade 11 & 12 marks. An official final high school transcript of your grade 12 marks must be received by August 31st of the year of enrolment to be assessed for the PSAE.

Academic percentage, GPA, or letter grades will be based upon the top five course marks obtained. Three of the five must be academic courses, one of which must be an English course. Some restrictions may apply.

Sanford Collegiate Leadership Scholarship

South America Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for South America Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

South America Scholarship

This scholarship is available to new or returning full-time students enrolling in a degree program, coming from South America. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay of 400 words outlining why they want to study at Providence and what they plan to do in their field to make a difference in the world. Please comment on how this bursary will assist you in meeting your financial needs in attending Providence. A letter of reference/recommendation from a high school/ university professor, pastor or community leader is required with this application.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain a minimum Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • The BA applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • The MA applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $2500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

SRSS Leadership Scholarship, Sponsored by the Lightcap Foundation $500 (1 available)

This scholarship is available to SRSS students who have achieved good academic standing and have exhibited leadership ability in their academic career. This scholarship is awarded by the Providence University College Financial Aid Committee along with the Guidance Department at SRSS. Please comment on how this scholarship will assist you in meeting your financial goals in attending Providence.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.
  • Recipient must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • Recipient must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester.

This scholarship is available to SVRSS students entering a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Aviation. Students applying for this scholarship must show potential in both aviation and academic studies.   • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.

This one-time scholarship is available to SVRSS students entering a Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Business Administration. Students applying for this scholarship must show potential in both Business Administration and academic studies. This scholarship is available with any other external bursary or scholarship.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.5.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.

Providence will accept submissions for TESOL Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

TESOL Scholarship

This scholarship is available to new or returning full-time students entering an TESOL or TTESOL program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay of 400 words outlining why they want to study TESOL or TTESOL at Providence University College and what they plan to do in this field to make a difference in the world. Please comment on how this bursary will assist you in meeting your financial needs in attending Providence. A letter of reference/recommendation from a university professor, pastor or community leader is required with this application.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain a minimum Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • The BA applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • The MA TESOL or TTESOL applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $2500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Renee Dueck Memorial Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for The Renee Dueck Memorial Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

The Renee Dueck Memorial Scholarship, $2500 (3 available)

This is a one-time award that is available to new students who express an interest in developing their passion of communication through media and the social sciences. Preference will be given to students who have participated in a YWAM DTS. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay describing their past endeavors and future goals of communication through media or the social sciences. This should demonstrate a passion similar to Renée’s: “Proclaiming the truth through the performing arts and mobilizing the church into missions.” She reflected the Glory of God to so many and recognized the image of God in people around the world, in every class, culture and realm of society. Her impact and love will never be forgotten.

The Ross and Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship

Providence will accept submissions for The Ross and Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship until the end of Friday, April 1, 2016.

The Ross and Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship, $10,000 ($5,000 available Sept 30th and $5,000 Jan 31st)

This one-time scholarship is available to a new student entering full-time studies in the University College. The applicant must hold Canadian citizenship to be eligible for this award and submit a 600 word essay of how their education at Providence is preparing them to grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service (Providence mission statement).

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Grade Point Average of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 30 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must hold Canadian citizenship.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program.
  • Applicant must live in Providence residence.
  • Applicant must submit a 600 word essay on how Providence will prepare them to follow Christ and grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service. As a general rule, our expectation is that students receiving The Ross and Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship should display the below attributes:
    • Academic Merit

      For incoming first-year students, academic achievement normally means that students rank at the top of their graduating class, we will only consider a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or greater for this scholarship.

    • Strength of Character

      Students who have overcome obstacles related to health, family, social, educational or economic disadvantages are encouraged to apply. Any circumstance that shows strength of character and potential for achievement should be stated in your essay.

    • Community Service

      The committee considers not simply your community service but, more importantly, the impact your service has had on a particular individual or group. The committee considers volunteerism, service learning, field-work or internships that show civic responsibility and engagement.

    • Leadership

      Students who demonstrate experience leading groups and providing direction to others including teaching, training, organizing, managing and carrying more responsibility on the part of a group or organization. Being held in high regard by one's peers for being a role model through actions and deeds; and making improvements and achieving successes with or on behalf of others.




Theatre Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Theatre Scholarship.

Theatre Scholarship, Sponsored by the Laurel C. Turnbull Estate $500(2 available)

This scholarship is available to a new student entering a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Theatre. Applicants must submit a letter of reference/recommendation from a high school or community drama director as well as an essay outlining their theatre experience and goals for the future. Applicants must also audition for the scholarship. The audition must include two monologues: one taken from a theatre classic (e.g. Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov) and the other from a contemporary Canadian play.
